A Health Based Diet
My main focus the last couple of weeks has been existing on a VLCD, or Very Low Calorie Diet. That’s 800kcals per day to people in the know, made up of packets, usually soups or shakes. It comes with a few side effects, not least that the smell of real food is absolutely tantalising, I would go so far as to say mesmerising in fact. I’m two weeks in to the twelve week course and almost a stone in weight down. I’m also weaning off one of my main medications, one I’ve been on for years now. All that is resulting in some pretty dodgy side effects, so I’m distracting myself with preparation for weaning back onto food in July.
I’m achieving control with a web page, using a Notion template, where I can adapt some of my favourite recipes over time, find the shortcuts I know I will need, gather ideas, and hopefully prepare my family and myself for the dietary journey ahead. Honestly one of the problems I have is that I just don’t bother making food any more. I’ve stopped seeing it as important when I’m dead tired all the time. So, my website-under-construction is here, published early, as much for me to find as anything else. Maybe it has some useful tips for others on a similar journey.
NB: The original website (Our Mediterranean Diet) no longer exists; this website became the Roots & Recipes project featured here.
