April’s Read

Running total books/audiobooks/short stories read in 2026 by month end: 33.

So I dropped the ball completely this month… Sorry… I’d love to have a great excuse, but basically, my movement back to normal life from the 2025 year of reading kind of kicked in after a busy month last month, I instantly leapt off the wagon, and I vanished into the mists of non-reading. I spent the whole of April video gaming, RPG playing, cuddling the dogs on the sofa, being sociable, and I forgot about reading. I mean at all. If you saw me during April, you would think I’d never opened a book in my life, let alone read thousands of them.

Now I’ve fessed up, here it is. My one single lonely read of April, and I had to read this one, because it was the book club choice for the month. They made me do it. Kept me on the straight and narrow (kind of).

Luckily enough, the one thing I bothered reading this month turned out to be a solid five-star rating. It was The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones, which is a vicious and bloodthirsty tale based on a vicious and bloodthirsty American history. This book is not an easy ready, to the point of being not a very nice read. You have to just lock in then stay there for the ride. In some ways I’m glad this was my only read for the month. A book club choice, it really helped to have other people to refer to, especially Americans, as this author can be a little difficult to follow for non-Americans.
